Photocopy of a handwritten letter, dated 2 Aug. 1893, and addressed to William B. Preston. Thatcher writes about deeds to lands in Mexico "Made by Johnson and Crosby." Thatcher questions if the Mexican Colonization and Agricultural Company can own land in Mexico as a foreign corporation.

William Bowker Preston, 1830-1908, fourth presiding bishop of the Mormon Church, was born in Virginia. In 1852, Preston joined the California gold rush. He settled in Yolo County, California where he met and married Harriet Thatcher in 1858. In 1859 he joined the Hezikiah Thatcher family in settling Cache Valley--located on the Utah-Idaho border.
